The Family and their Ministry – ID 145

We are a fun and friendly family of five and have lived and served in East Asia since 2011. Our three daughters are Katie (2005), Caroline (2009), and Anne (2012), plus our two-year-old “miniature Labrador” Cassie. The girls attend an international Christian school where Mary will also be student teaching full-time from August-December 2022 (which is why we are looking for someone to help!). Adam is the pastor of one of the international churches here in the city.

Our main ministry centers around the church where Adam pastors, and there lots of ways you could serve there. However, we are also well-connected with other ministries throughout the city. Do you have a heart for children? Students? Filipino/Indonesian helpers? Chinese? Muslims? Poverty? Trafficking? Whatever your area of interest, we could help you find a way to serve. If you are interested in language study (Mandarin or Cantonese), we can also help you coordinate classes/tutor.

Nanny’s Primary Duty: Fulfilling basic housekeeping responsibilities during the week while Mary and Adam are at work and the girls are at school (house cleaning, dog walking, grocery shopping, dinner prep)

Other expenses: Per Mission Nanny policy, you would be responsible for purchasing plane tickets, visa, and insurance (if desired). In addition to room and board, we would cover the cost of the one-week hotel quarantine that is currently required by HK’s Covid policy. We would also provide a weekly “allowance” to cover basic transportation costs around the city (buses, MTR). You would be responsible for any other expenses (sightseeing, activities, language classes, etc).

MN’s room, bath: You would have your own room on the first floor. There is a bathroom in the hallway right beside the room, but it is pretty “local” so we would recommend sharing the girls’ bathroom on the second floor (for showering).

Anything else? We have had a Mission Nanny live and serve with us before and it was a wonderful experience–for her and for us!  Hong Kong is an awesome place to live–people from all over the world, lots of ministry opportunities, and freedom of religion. You can easily get by with English only, and there is so much to explore and learn in this beautiful and historic city. We live in a three-story village house…quite different from the typical shoebox-sized Hong Kong apartment. Very beautiful surroundings, with mountains and water nearby and lots of hiking, yet still in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.
